ceramic mask
Blue as the morning sky the moon appears as a ceramic mask. The celestial body is hand-crafted by Pedro and Maria and painted with bright birds and flowers. Each is a unique work of art thus colors and motifs may vary slightly from those pictured. NOVICA, in association with National Geographic, offers thousands of limited edition and one-of-a-kind gifts, jewelry, and home decor treasures handmade by master artists and artisans throughout the world. Natural tones sweep like arid winds across this ceramic mask, interrupted by a singular expression beneath a patterned headband. The work is entitled "Pacaycasa," a word combining Spanish and Quechua roots meaning a house on the cliff's edge. Makes a daring statement in any decor. Feriberto Aylas derives his inspiration from everyday life in his native Peru, depicting Andean customs in his art. Using special clay native to the region he hand-shapes the pieces and prepares them with engobe, a fluid mixture of clay, water and color oxides. Once fired, each ceramic item is hand-painted with natural pigments. Finally a sealant is applied to protect the paint.

Handmade by Georgina A. Cabrera Tagle
Ships from Mexico within 7 days
The priest form the great Tenochtitlán - an Aztec metropolis - appears in the form of a handsome mask by Georgina A. Tagle. The mask features an ornate headdress, which tells of the person's social standing. Tagle is guided by experience in her design of this mask, crafted of ceramics and hand-paints with acrylics. She finds inspiration in motifs, customs and beliefs of pre-Hispanic Mexico. NOVICA, in association with National Geographic, searches the world to work directly with the finest artisan designers. Please note that when you order this product you will receive one that might vary slightly to the one seen in the photo. This is an inevitable result of the traditional handcrafting process that characterizes the ceramic work. The differences may be observable in the form of asymmetric lines, uneven colors, or porosity. These "imperfections" in no way lower the quality of the piece. Instead, they glorify the uniqueness of the art. Artisan Info: Feriberto Aylas, born in Ayacucho in 1965, is an artisan dedicated to ceramics. He has established a family community centered around ceramics, working alongside his relatives.
